The challenge

Keyless access control

ING’s 800 branch offices in Belgium had intrusion detection and camera surveillance but key management had become a problem. They were finding it very difficult to keep track of physical keys and who was authorised to use them. ING needed an access control system for its branch offices. And, for increased security, it wanted authorisations to be assigned to the cardholder rather than the access card.

What they did

Centralised security with local management

AEOS was already in use at ING headquarters and regional offices. They were pleased with the system and so decided to expand it to ING’s Belgian branch network. All branch offices could now be connected to a central database, while lower-level security managers could handle authorisations. To prepare for installation, ING created authorisations centrally in AEOS. Our business partner then defined the configuration and uploaded it for quick on-site installation.

Key benefits

Increased control & security

  • Cardholders can be clustered into groups with different authorisations.
  • Authorisations are assigned to cardholder, not card – so all cards can be accounted for.
  • Data is imported from the HR database and the rule engine updates authorisations automatically.
  • Centralised and decentralised security policies can be combined.
  • Cards give access only (the alarm needs separate ID) and can be blocked on an expiry date.
  • Easy in-depth reporting provides a valuable management tool.
“Because we were already aware of AEOS’s capabilities and very satisfied with its performance, it was a logical step to ask Nedap to solve our problem.”
