Why mobile access control?

The mobile phone is playing a central role in daily lives. American studies shows that we check our phone almost hundred times a day. There is a great chance you lose of forget your access badge but forgetting or losing your mobile phone is not that often the case, simply because you constantly checking it. Because you always have it on you, the next logical step is to use it to enter buildings. This is called mobile access control but is not only about mobile phones but also about other portable devices, such as tablets and wearables based on BLE or NFC.

Bluetooth Low Energy
BLE is currently the most common type of communication used in the access control market. BLE can be used on a distance without manually pairing the devices and almost all mobile phones support it. The range of BLE is adjustable and therefore you can configure inside doors to operate on a short range and gates for example with a wider range.

Near Field Communication
NFC is a short-range communication protocol between two devices. Due to the closer range (10 cm) in comparison to BLE, it is more secure, and it is impossible to mistakenly unlock other doors. Most modern mobile phones support NFC but older phones can be a problem.

Mobile access control in AEOS

Fully integrating mobile access control in AEOS is the optimum way of using your mobile phone or mobile device to access your buildings. After registering someone in AEOS, the mobile identifier is shared with the mobile platform of the supplier. Thereafter, the user can download its credentials and use it right away on all mobile ready readers. Revoking access is just as easy as deleting the identifier from AEOS and the credentials are automatically revoked from the mobile phone.

By keeping up with the latest IT security trends, AEOS is as safe and secure as possible. For mobile access integrations, the key measures are secure communication and secure storage. The communication between AEOS and a mobile platform is always secured and encrypted. The mapping between a mobile identifier and a mobile device is always stored within the mobile platform and the user data within AEOS. Consequently, the privacy of the users can be guaranteed.
