This year’s event made Intersec history with attendees from 131 countries. At this 24th edition of the Middle East’s leading trade fair for safety, security, and fire protection, the team from Nedap Security Management were among the security professionals and industry leaders showcasing the latest advancements and innovations. The event’s hosts promised five new interactive features on the agenda, and they did not disappoint.

Records were even set at the Hack Arena, where the Cyberdrill Competition took place. It drew quite the crowd, and showed the creativity and versatility of event that’s evolved through the years:

And although I managed to make the rounds to experience everything Intersec 2023 had to offer, much of our team’s highlights came from the conversations and high energy at our booth. We’ll share our top 5 highlights with you:

  1. Lockers are in great demand
There was great of interest in our renewed locker proposition. Why? In short, more and more organisations are running hybrid workplaces. And smart lockers can fulfill the security, efficiency, and reporting needs of the modern workspace. This was only the second Intersec event that happened live after the COVID-19 pandemic shut down events around the world. So it’s important to note that the demand for contactless solutions is high, as we all adjust to COVID-19 protocols and return-to-office measures.

Our team was very enthused and inspired by the questions about locker management! It felt great to give live demos again, and to re-connect with many of our partners and end users.

  2. Synergy in partnerships
Speaking of partners, there was tremendous synergy in the sessions with our technology partners on the ground in Dubai. Many of our conversation were focused on the topics of open standards and best of breed technology. As always, Intersec provided the perfect setting for these kinds of talks considering our wide range of customers and their needs. You can see just how much energy was exchanged over the 3-day period:

As AEOS is based entirely on open standards and optimized to remain secure now, and in the future, having open communication about possible projects is a path to future-proofed access control. In fact, our latest release further strengthens our offering in four main areas, with open standards being just one of them.

  3. Tech-savviness of our end users in the Middle East region
It’s always a pleasure to meet our clients wherever we go, but there is always an impressive turnout of our end users at Intersec Dubai. We always appreciate the hands-on mentality and curiosity of the attendees at Intersec, and the openness to trying new technologies.

“What you do you have for us this year?” is a question that we love to hear every year, because it means that there is a hunger in the market for innovation. This year was no different, as we were asked “what’s new” time and time again. We were able to answer this question, and more, through live demonstrations of our solutions! 4. Attendance has grown significantly since last year
The number of visitors we greeted, and the overall atmosphere in the Dubai World Trade Centre, proved once that live events are back. In our industry, where trust and credibility are key to stronger relationships, this is a very positive sign for the future of security. We also noticed considerable growth in visitors from the UAE, KSA, and Egypt.

Alex Nicholl, Show Director of the event’s organiser Messe Frankfurt, spoke to Gulf News, who covered Intersec 2023.He had this to say: “We have 42 newcomers from the Emirates this year, which means the UAE now accounts for 20 per cent of our exhibitor profile. Saudi Arabian participants are up 20 per cent too, while we have also seen particularly strong growth from India, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey, Iraq, Qatar, Nigeria, and Egypt.

”We should never underestimate the power of face-to-face interactions and real-time conversations that Intersec Dubai brings. As we adjust to hybrid ways of working, we’re here to help organisations around the world balance their needs for security and flexibility.

  5. Never take shoes for granted
Our team would never complain about being on our feet for 20+ hours in the span of 3 days, but it didn’t hurt to be wearing the right shoes!

Last year, we formed a unified front wearing Nedap-branded socks. But we took things one step further (pun intended) this year. Our delegation from Nedap Security Management and Nedap Identification Systems proudly extended the brand experience at our booth.

Teamwork is what made this event a success for us. Without the people, there is no technology. And as a team, we’re looking forward to next year’s event. See you there!
